Goodbye Beverages: What Are the Discontinued Starbucks Drinks?

4 weeks ago 7

It’s never easy to say goodbye, especially when it’s to one of your favorite Starbucks drinks. However, the iconic coffee shop started removing 13 drinks on Mar. 4 as part of its efforts to simplify its menu by about 30%. While we understand that a smaller menu can mean shorter wait times, the list of discontinued Starbucks drinks is going to break a lot of hearts (especially those of Frappuccino lovers).

Wondering if your favorite Starbucks beverage is on the chopping block? We’re explaining which drinks are no longer with us. You can also see the new items and old favorites of Starbucks’ spring selections that are taking their place.

What Are the Discontinued Starbucks Drinks?

We know you’re anxious to see if any of your favorites are disappearing, so we won’t keep you in suspense any longer about which Starbucks drinks have left the building. The following 13 beverages started disappearing from menus starting on Mar. 4:

  • Espresso Frappuccino
  • Caffe Vanilla Frappuccino
  • Java Chip Frappuccino
  • White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino
  • Chai Creme Frappuccino
  • Caramel Ribbon Crunch Creme Frappuccino
  • Double Chocolaty Chip Creme Frappuccino
  • Chocolate Cookie Crumble Creme Frappuccino
  • White Chocolate Creme Frappuccino
  • White Hot Chocolate
  • Royal English Breakfast Latte
  • Iced Matcha Lemonade
  • Honey Almondmilk Flat White

If you’re a Frappuccino lover, this news might sting a little because nine out of the 13 discontinued Starbucks drinks are this type of caffeinated delight. Thankfully, Starbucks will still sell Frappuccino drinks but with fewer variations.

Why Did Starbucks Remove These Drinks From Its Menu?

If one of your favorite beverages was removed during this menu purge, it might feel personal. When you love treating yourself to a specific Starbucks treat, you might wonder why the company is taking it away. In its announcement, Starbucks said it selected these 13 drinks for several reasons:

  • The items weren’t commonly purchased.
  • The drinks were hard to make.
  • There were other similar beverages already on the menu.

Starbucks states that it hopes focusing on “fewer, more popular items” will “make way for innovation, help reduce wait times [and] improve quality and consistency.” Even if this is true, we know seeing this list of discontinued Starbucks drinks can be heartbreaking.

Sadly, this heartbreak continues because Starbucks will keep using this reasoning to remove even more menu items in the coming months. Their goal is to have 30% fewer items by the end of 2025. Yes, that means we can expect to see even more beverages leave the Starbucks menu this year, so brace yourself for these changes.

What’s New on Starbucks’ Spring Menu?

If you need a little bit of good news after grieving the discontinued drinks from Starbucks, you’ll want to look at Starbucks’ new spring menu. The so-called Spring Selections feature three refreshing beverages as well as one brand-new food item. These items might not relieve the pain of losing old favorites but it’s a step in the right direction.

Here’s a look at the new items from the Starbucks spring menu:

  • Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha (contains dairy)
  • Iced Lavender Oatmilk Latte
  • The new Iced Cherry Chai
  • The new Jalapeno Chicken Pocket (at participating locations)

We know that these spring items and the new Cortado introduced in January might not completely ease the sting of seeing the list of Starbucks’ discontinued drinks. However, they give us hope that Starbucks will continue to innovate and offer new beverages and food items for us loyal fans to fall in love with during the coming months.
