Why My Whole Family Only Travels With Monos Luggage Carry-Ons

As a family of five, traveling can be full of headaches and extra fees. One way we bypass those inconveniences is by traveling with carry-on luggage only. This strategy not only saves us time waiting at baggage claim, but it also saves us money that we’d otherwise have to pay for checked bags. Me and my family’s preferred brand for carry-on luggage? Monos.

In case you didn’t know, Monos is a relatively new luggage brand (founded in 2018), that has gained enough popularity in recent years to where the brand is now in competition with luggage heavy hitters such as Away, Samsonite, CALPAK and more.

I stumbled upon Monos luggage when it finally came time to upgrade my decades-old soft luggage. My eyes were immediately drawn to the brand’s minimalist hard-shell luggage pieces, which come in the most aesthetic colors. This combination of style and function was a home run for me, and I decided to give the suitcase a go.

My only reservation about the suitcase was that it looked small online and lacked that front pocket typically found in soft luggage (that I loved using to stuff necessities in). Could the Monos Carry-On really fit everything I needed so I wouldn’t have to check a bag? The answer proved to be a resounding yes, and then some.

All the Reasons Why I Love the Monos Carry-On

Ample Room

According to the brand site, their carry-on luggage boasts a 28-liter capacity, which I’ve found to be pretty accurate. Combined with packing cubes, I can easily fit a week’s worth of clothing into each Carry-On. There’s also a (removable) zippered pocket inside for stashing flatter items like documents and phone chargers. And when that pocket is laid flat in the suitcase, it compress your stuff so that it stays more easily in place while en route.

Two of my kids are usually able to share just one Monos Carry-On suitcase, making traveling as a larger group a breeze. What’s more, our Monos have easily fit into the overhead bins of every major airline we’ve flown, even on smaller budget airlines like Volaris and JetBlue.

Durability

The quality in Monos luggage also lies in its durability. As you can see, my suitcase has taken its share of beatings and has lived to tell the tale. Like my Carry-On, the rest of our Monos suitcases have been used thoroughly through dozens of trips by every member of my family. They’re all made of a polycarbonate shell, a material that the brand touts as being dent-resistant, water-resistant and able to handle impact.

To prove this to shoppers, Monos actually puts its luggage to the test, 40 quality assurance tests to be exact. If you visit this section of the brand’s website, it lists what kind of tests it puts its luggage through as well as shows you some of the testing in action.

Impeccable Style

I started with one Monos Carry-On in a gorgeous blush shade (rose quartz) and later added a Carry-On Plus to my collection. Monos also has some super fun collaborations that make it hard to resist adding more. The pieces from the Monos x Sincerely Jules line harken back to the glamorous days of vintage travel and their Magnolia Bakery collab offers sunny colors of Banana Pudding and Purple Icing as an homage to the famed cupcake shop.

Overall, I have no regrets about investing in this quality luggage. Being able to pack everything we need easily combined with the luggage’s high-quality construction, gorgeous modern silhouettes and colorways makes Monos a brand I’ll come back to over and over again for my travel needs.
