Taylor Swift’s concert tickets aren’t the only thing the star has the power to sell out. Swift’s makeup artist Lorrie Turk confirmed on Instagram that the lipstick color Swift wore to the VMA’s (among other events) was Nars Morocco – a change up from Swift’s signature red lip. Since then, the brand hasn’t been able to keep the product in stock.
Here’s the note Nars currently has on its website in regards to the now-trending lipstick hue.
If you’re hoping to get your hands (or lips rather) on Nars Morocco, we broke down how you can scoop it up when it does come back in stock and the best dupes/alternatives to turn to if you can’t wait.
Where to Buy Nars Original Lipstick in Morocco
Nars Morocco is a warm cinnamon shade, and it’s one of the 12 original lip colors that François Nars’ eponymous brand launched with 30 years ago. It is a fascinating shade because it looks so different from one person to the next. For some, the orange really comes through, for others the terracotta takes center stage. But no matter your true lip or skin tone, expect Morocco to give you a fab matte finish and a warm, rich shade that goes perfectly from day to night.
Note: While this shade is currently out of stock on Nars website, you can sign up to be the first to be notified when it comes back in stock.
Nars Air Matte Lip Color in Morocco
If the lipstick is still sold out, know that Nars also offers Morocco in a liquid lipstick formulation, with a convenient doe-foot applicator. It’s got a lightweight feel, but it’s still very much a lipstick, not a gloss or stain, and will give you that same deep, gorgeous, Taylor-approved color. You can currently find this lipstick in stock on Nars website and at Kohl’s.
The Best Nars Morocco Dupes
Morocco is tough to copy — it’s a perfect blend of brown, orange, and hint of red and there’s a reason it’s still going strong 30 years later. It’s very hard to find an exact replica of Morocco, especially as lipstick varies from one person to the next. But below you’ll find lipstick shades in that same warm family. If you like what you see with Morocco, but can’t get your hands on it, try these out instead.
e.l.f. O FACE Satin Lipstick in Me Myself & I
The affordable e.l.f. Satin Lipstick in Me, Myself & I is a deep, rich orange brown with a red undertone, so if not a twin, it’s certainly a cousin to Morocco thanks to its warmth and rich color. It’s made with marula oil, squalane and jojoba esters and gives a satin finish rather than matte, and it also has more red to it than Morocco.
Also check out e.l.f. Standing Ovation from the same series. It’s a peachy yellow brown, and it’s gorgeous!
NYX Smooth Whip Matte Lip Cream in Teddy Fluff
NYX describes Teddy Fluff (awww) as a “pinky brown” and yes, you won’t get that same orange punch you do with Morocco, but it’s within the same family. (Also, on your lips the warm red is more pronounced than in the bottle.)
This is a matte lip cream, infused with shea and cocoa butter, so it has more moisture to it than some other matte formulations we’ve used.
NYX Lip Lingerie Peach Flirt
Another matte pick from our friends at NYX, the Lip Lingerie XXL Long-Lasting Matte Liquid Lipstick in Peach Flirt offers more orange here than Teddy Fluff. The formulation is super long-lasting, so not only is this wallet-friendly, but a swipe should see you through a whole day!
Kylie Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick in 22
Kylie Jenner’s Matte Liquid Lipstick is a spectacular matte color range with 33 long-wearing colors, including 22, a Morocco dupe that’s a perfectly balanced orange-y brown.
Sephora Collection Soft Matte & Easy Liquid Lipstick in Whatsoever
Though Sephora’s Soft Matte & Easy Whatsoever looks super deep brown in the tube, on your lips the red and yellow comes through. This is an excellent lip product, but note that it has a thinner consistency than the other picks on this list.
ColourPop Lux Lipstick in 21 Questions
A great color and a nourishing feel make this ColourPop lipstick a great buy. Though 21 Questions has the warmth and the blend of orange, brown, and red from Morocco, it is more of a creamy finish, not matte, than Morocco.
ColourPop Ultra Blotted Lip in Slow Jam
Like it says right in the name, this lipstick from ColourPop leaves a blotted, matte finish on your lips. Slow Jam, described as “warm terracotta,” is such a great color for the cooler fall and winter months.
Rare Beauty Lip Soufflé Matte Cream Lipstick in Brave
The whipped Lip Soufflé Matte Cream Lipstick in Brave goes on featherlight but leaves an intensely pigmented, matte finish. Shade-wise, Brave is very, very close to Morocco (though it may have a touch more red to it). Another winner from Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty brand.
