Where to Find Furby Now to Beat the Holiday Rush

Last year Hasbro announced the return of Furby and a new, smaller Furby toy called “Furblets.” For those who might not be familiar, Furby was a cultural phenomenon when they were initially released in 1998. The newest Furby has proven to be an even more responsive upgrade to an already clever toy. Furby can dance to music with you, mimic silly voices, share fortunes and help you chill out. These revamped Furby toys were well received by excited nostalgic fans. Furby is definitely back and we predict it will be a major player (again) this holiday season, so it’s smart to think about shopping early. I mean what’s not to love about strange robotic hamster-like creatures, that hang out with you?

What is a Furby?

Designed as a hybrid of an owl, hamster, and bat, the Furby could “learn” language and respond to touch and sound, making it an interactive and lifelike companion for children. Its innovative use of AI allowed it to “learn” English over time from its unique Furbish language, enhancing its interactivity and appeal.

Furby’s initial release was met with incredible success, selling over 40 million units in its first three years. Its popularity was bolstered by its appearance in various TV shows and movies, cementing its status as a 90s icon. The Furby saw a significant revival in 2012 when Hasbro reintroduced it with updated technology, including LCD eyes and a mobile app for interactive play. The latest 2023 Furby continued to push the boundaries of interactive toy technology offering over 600 reactions, including jokes, songs and more. Furby maintains a devoted fanbase of new and old customers.

Is Furby scary?

Furby garnered some notoriety due to fears that it could record conversations, leading to bans in sensitive locations like the NSA and Pentagon. In addition to these controversies, there are some passionate Furby owners (as documented on Reddit, Quora and YouTube) who claim that their Furby is turning evil. Curious? There is even a wikiHow page on how to turn your Furby Evil

Where can you shop for Furby?

Furby is sold by small and large retailers including major players like Amazon, Toysrus.com, Walmart, Target, Macy’s and Kohl’s. Older collectibles can be found on eBay and FB Marketplace, often for a steep price depending on how in demand they are.
