For the first time ever, Amazon is extending its Prime Day sale to 96 hours, double the usual 48, giving shoppers even more time to score major deals. LeBron James headlines Amazon’s new Prime Day ad campaign, using his star power to kick off the event.

This marks the 11th year of Amazon’s Prime Day, the annual members-only sale featuring deep discounts on millions of products. Expect major markdowns on Amazon’s own devices like the Fire TV Stick, Fire HD tablet, and Echo speakers, plus some of the lowest prices of the year on top brands like Sony, Dyson, and Living Proof. You’ll also see deals from new-to-Amazon names like Unwell Hydration, Tarte Cosmetics, and Away.

Amazon often uses Prime Day to spotlight the small businesses that sell through its marketplace, even offering special incentives to shop from them. Early deals are already live, with more rolling out soon.

When Is Prime Day in 2025?

Prime Day will take place July 8 to 11 in 2025. This makes it the longest Prime Day ever as every previous event was held for only 48 hours.

Last year (2024) Prime Day took place July 16 and 17. The event was 48 hours long, the same as in previous years.

Just how big is Prime Day in the world of retail? Massive, and it seems to grow more and more each year. Last year’s 2024 Amazon Prime Day event was record-breaking. Prime members shopped millions of deals and purchased more items than any previous Prime Day shopping event. Amazon’s 2023 Prime Day resulted in members purchasing over 375 million items worldwide and saving over $2.5 billion. In 2022, Amazon Prime Day included early Prime Day deals that rolled out three weeks before the event, with members purchasing over 300 million items (up from 250 million in 2021) and saving $1.7 billion more than previous Prime Day events.

Prime Day is also, more or less, somewhat of a preview of the deals customers can expect during Black Friday in November. That’s just how good the Prime Day deals are for those experienced in the Black Friday hullabaloo.

Other merchants jump on the Prime Day bandwagon, too. Amazon’s main competitors, like Walmart, Target and Best Buy, run their own sales throughout the same time frame that, at the bare minimum, equal the discounts on the same (or similar) merchandise as Amazon.

When Did Amazon Announce Prime Day Dates for 2025?

Amazon isn’t one to spring Prime Day on its customers at the very last minute. Quite the contrary. Although timing can vary, Amazon announces the Prime Day dates a few weeks ahead of time.

This year it announced Prime Day 2025 dates on June 16, 2025. Last year, it announced Prime Day 2024 dates on June 25, 2024. On June 20, 2023, Amazon announced its Prime Day dates for July 11-12, 2023, exactly three weeks for it would start. And on June 16, 2022, Amazon announced its Prime Day dates for July 12-13, 2022, a little under four weeks before it started. Check back around mid-June when we expect Amazon to make its announcement.

Past Amazon Prime Day Dates

In 2025: The Prime Day dates are July 8 to 11. The official news release dropped on June 16, kicked off by celebrity basketball player LeBron James. This marks the first year that Amazon will hold the sale for 96 hours, doubling the time you have to shop and save.

In 2024: The Prime Day dates were July 16 to 17. The official release dropped June 25, also announcing influencer partnerships, up to 40% off back-to-school supplies and a kickoff with Megan Thee Stallion (and an original song called “It’s Prime Day”). This year, Amazon announced it would again be offering invite-only deals (a tactic it launched for Prime Day 2023).

In 2023: Prime Day happened on July 11 (at 3 a.m. ET) and July 12. The mega-retailer updated the world via news release on June 20, verifying the super secretive dates that Amazon always keeps close the vest. New this year? Special invite-only deals that Prime members can request an invitation for in advance.

In 2022: Prime Day took place on July 12 and July 13, although plenty of early Prime Day deals started trickling in well before then. Amazon confirmed that Prime Day would definitely happen in July on April 28. Then on June 16, Amazon announced its Prime Day dates, returning to its pre-2020 timing.

In 2021: Prime Day started on June 21 at noon PT and lasted through June 22 at noon PT — for 48 hours of an online shopping palooza. Amazon announced those dates on June 2 in an unobtrusive news release, giving Prime members just shy of three weeks to prep. This was actually the earliest Prime Day had ever happened.

In 2020: Amazon postponed Prime Day because of the pandemic and shelter-in-place orders. On Sept. 24, Amazon announced that Prime Day would be pushed into October, specifically Oct. 13 and 14, 2020 — the latest Prime Day has happened, but giving Prime members its usual less-than-three-weeks’ notice. The timing made the last quarter of the year a big festival of savings, combining Black Friday and Cyber Monday into the Prime Day mix.

• 2025: July 8 to 11 for 96 shopping hours.

• 2016: July 12 for 24 shopping hours.
• 2015: July 15 for 24 shopping hours.

Every year, Prime Day becomes an even bigger monster than it was the year before, and Amazon counts on it.

This year, Amazon is introducing several new perks for members. Highlights include exclusive fuel discounts for summer travel and some of the lowest prices of the year from top brands. The company is also rolling out an enhanced Prime for Young Adults membership, offering 18–24-year-olds special benefits like 5% cash back for a limited time and new personalized shopping features to help them discover savings more easily.
