Earlier this week, Mattel announced a pair of exciting additions to its growing roster of beautifully diverse and inclusive Barbie Fashionistas dolls. Seeking accurate and respectful representations, Mattel partnered with non-profit organizations that advocate for those with vision impairment and people with Down syndrome to create a blind Barbie doll and the first black Barbie with Down syndrome.
The Fashionistas Line previously saw the release of its first doll with Down syndrome in April of last year, furthering Mattel’s mission to have Barbie more accurately reflect the diversity of the real world. Designed to inspire children (or anyone of any age, really!) to see themselves in Barbie, the line now features more than 175 dolls that represent a variety of skin tones, hair and eye colors, shapes and sizes, disabilities and, of course, fashions.
It’s no surprise that these inclusive, inspiring and often groundbreaking dolls have garnered lots of attention, so you’ll definitely want to pick them up now before they sell out!
Where Can I Buy These New Barbie Dolls Before They Sell Out?
Fortunately, the Barbie Fashionistas Line — including brand-new releases — can often be found at Amazon, Target and Walmart – especially when shopping online. You can also use the “Where to Buy” feature on Mattel’s site to see which retailers currently have your desired doll in stock.
We did a bit of the research for you, but you’ll want to act fast before these dolls sell out! Here’s where you can find the new blind Barbie doll, Barbie dolls with Down syndrome and some other popular recent releases for sale or pre-order right now.
5 Inspiring and Inclusive Barbie Dolls to Buy Before They Sell Out
Barbie Fashionistas Doll with Down Syndrome
Mattel tapped the National Down Syndrome Society to help create this doll in celebration of individuals with Down syndrome. She wears an adorable heart-print dress with a blue and yellow color palette — a shoutout to Down syndrome awareness. She also has matching pink eyeglasses (both practical and pretty), trendy pink shoes and long, braided hair.
Barbie Doll With Down Syndrome Wearing Floral Dress
The first Barbie doll with Down syndrome is also still available for purchase online. She wears a
pretty floral dress with puff sleeves and ankle foot orthoses that perfectly match her outfit, of course. She also sports an empowering pink pendant necklace with three arrows rising up, representing the third 21st chromosome found in individuals with Down syndrome.
Barbie Fashionistas Doll with Cane and Sunglasses
Created in partnership with The American Foundation for The Blind, this doll’s pretty ensemble plays heavily with textures, including a satiny top and ruffled skirt. She also comes with practical and ultra-fashionable silver aviator sunglasses, and articulated arms for using her included white cane. Even cooler, her packaging has the name “Barbie” in Braille and the doll’s clothing features brightly-colored, high-contrast closures for enhanced accessibility.
Barbie Future Leader Doll
Though it was released in June of this year (prior to recent, ahem, leadership changes), we have a feeling that this Future Leader Barbie is going to see a pretty big rise in popularity in coming weeks. Inspiring young leaders of all kinds, she comes in several variations: blonde hair, black hair, dark brown hair and light brown hair, as pictured here. As of writing, they’re all still available at Amazon, but one in particular seems to be selling pretty fast.
Barbie Signature 2024 Barbie Holiday Doll
Because it’s never too early to start prepping for the winter holidays, Mattel launched its diverse line of Holiday Barbie Dolls earlier this month. The red-haired 2024 Holiday Barbie is now available exclusively at Walmart, but you can find equally gorgeous versions of the collectible doll with other hair colors and skin tones via the official Mattel Creations website. Some are already on sale, while others are up for pre-order.
