The Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter Reduced My Texas-Sized Utility Bill (and Saved My Relationship, Maybe)

5 hours ago 2

I am a hot sleeper. If I had my way, I would sleep in a frosty 62-degree room every night, swaddled in a fluffy comforter and dreaming of Robert Pattinson. And if you think that low temperature is too cold, experts actually say otherwise. According to a sleep psychologist interviewed by the Cleveland Clinic, you bedroom should be between 60°F and 67°F (16°C and 19°C) for optimal sleep.

“Our bodies naturally cool in tandem with the natural environment overnight,” explains Brandon R. Peters, M.D., a sleep physician at Virginia Mason Medical Center. “A cool environment promotes deeper sleep.”

The Problem: A Hot Sleeper Dating a Cold Sleeper

Unfortunately, I live in Austin, where cool bedrooms in the summer come with Texas-sized utility bills. To make matters worse, my boyfriend is a cold sleeper. While I crank up the air conditioner and toss the covers off during the night, he shivers beneath multiple blankets.

It’s a tale as old as time: A hot sleeper dating a cold sleeper. Sure, it sounds like the premise of a Meg Ryan-style rom-com — but our sleep temperature incompatibility can be a major problem. When he sleeps at my house, he leaves unhappy and poorly rested. When I sleep at his house, I leave sweaty, cranky and seriously considering moving to Portland.

The Solution: Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter

As a lifestyle journalist, I’ve tested countless sleep products. Over the years, I’ve learned that so-called “cooling” bedding can be pretty hit or miss, with even the priciest products often falling short of their hype.

I’d begun to give up the hope. Maybe my boyfriend and I weren’t destined to share a bed. Maybe I was destined to move to Portland.

Everything changed when I discovered Rest’s Evercool Cooling Comforter

The multi-award-winning comforter is designed by Rest, a bedding brand specializing in cooling sheet sets and blankets. Since its 2022 launch, the buzzy blanket has been all over the internet, with social media influencers and journalists praising it as a must-buy for hot sleepers.

About the Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter

The Evercool Cooling Comforter is engineered with Rest’s proprietary fabric, a quick-drying, moisture-wicking blend of 90% nylon and 10% spandex. The comforter contains a TENCEL and Sorona filling, which further helps promote cooling and breathability.

An added bonus? The Evercool Comforter is hypoallergenic and OEKO-TEX certified, making it suitable for those with allergies and sensitive skin.

What I Love about the Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter

A woman smiles while wrapped in a light blue Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter, wearing a pink sweater and lying on a beige surface.

It’s a well-worn marketing cliche, but the Evercool Cooling Comforter is actually cool to the touch. The comforter is also ultra-light, slightly stretchy and buttery soft.

I tested the comforter out on a summer’s night when my boyfriend was sleeping over. In the middle of the night, I experienced something that never happens — I woke up cold. I had to go and turn the A.C. down a few notches (unheard of!) When I returned to bed, the comforter felt icy.

“Am I dreaming?” I wondered, amazed as I crawled back beneath the crisp, cool covers. “And if I am dreaming, where is Robert Pattinson?”

3 Things to Consider Before Buying the Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter

I don’t have many complaints with the Evercool Cooling Comforter. If anything, I would say the blanket is almost too cold. When the weather is chilly or the A.C. is on, I have to curl in a ball to get warm enough to sleep. As such, I wouldn’t recommend using this comforter during the winter.

The blanket is also more functional than fashionable. I’ve got the comforter in the brand’s signature Aqua Blue, an aesthetic I’d describe as “boring astronaut.” Rest does offer the blanket in more palatable colors, including dark blue, beige and ivory.

Finally, the Evercool Cooling Comforter isn’t cheap. A full/queen-size comforter costs $229 on Amazon, however, there is a coupon available for 20% off, which will bring the total price down to $199.46.

Final Thoughts

The verdict? In a perfect world, I’d always sleep in a chilly room. But during the hot summer months when my boyfriend sleeps over, I bust out the Evercool Comforter.

Did this cooling blanket save my relationship? Did it spare me from having to flee my beloved-but-sweltering-hot Texas home and become an Oregonian? (Oregonite?) Only time will tell. What I do know is that the Rest Evercool Cooling Comforter — though it came with a high price tag — saved me money in the long run in the form of lower cooling bills.
