Should You Take the Offer?
Normally, if you have never had the Amex Gold card then taking this upgrade offer will trigger the once per lifetime language on the Amex Gold card. So you would technically not be eligible for a future welcome offer on the card (the enforcement doesn’t always match the terms here).
But this is a much better offer than what’s publicly available as a signup bonus on the card, and the spending is lower. So this would be a better option for those who are targeted, unless you can find the 100,000 points offer that has been floating around.
