Negative Changes for Marriott and Uber Partnership

Uber and Marriott have revealed upcoming changes to their partnership which has been in place since 2021.

The partnership allows Marriott Bonvoy members to earn points toward free nights when requesting select Uber rides and ordering food and groceries from eligible merchants on Uber Eats.

The announced changes will start on October 14 and are mostly negative, but there are a few positives as well.

Here’s what you can expect once these changes go into effect:

  • Earn 3 points per dollar on Premium Uber rides, which is the same as now.
  • Earn 2 points per dollar on UberX Reserve Rides.
  • Earn 1 point per dollar when you place eligible food or grocery orders for delivery on Uber Eats. That’s down from 2 points per dollar on both delivery and pickup orders.
  • Earn 2 points per dollar when you place an eligible food or grocery order for delivery on Uber Eats at Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, and Element Hotels. Currently you earn 6 points per dollar on delivery at all brands for $40+ orders.
  • Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite Status for Uber One annual plan subscribers.

As you can see, the earning rates are slashed in half for Uber Eats orders, which is likely how most people are using this partnership.
