If you love decorating for different holidays, you don’t want to miss out on the festive world of Featherly Friends. These $5 decorative felt birds from Target have developed somewhat of a cult following, and if you aren’t already in love with them, we know you’ll quickly become a fan.
Although the Target Halloween birds for 2024 are already sold out online, don’t give up hope! The retailer restocked its Halloween birds last year. There’s also a huge resale market on websites like eBay and Mercari.
While we keep our fingers crossed for a Target Halloween bird restock, we’ll answer common questions about these little birds and highlight the spooky Featherly Friends for this year.
What Are Featherly Friends?
Standing at about six inches, Featherly Friends are decorative fabric birds. They feature round and lightweight bodies that are made of styrofoam and polyester. Each bird wears a different costume that’s inspired by a season or holiday.
Featherly Friends have become quite popular for their whimsical designs and low price of just $5 per bird.
When Do Target Halloween Birds Come Out?
If you want the best chance of snagging a Target Halloween bird, you’ll need to be an early bird yourself. That’s because the retailer typically releases its Halloween and fall Featherly Friends anywhere from July to August.
If you’re already thinking ahead to Christmas, plan to check Target for its merry Featherly Friends around September.
What Holidays Does Target Release Birds For?
Taking a look at the Target Birds Wiki (we told you these birds have a loyal fandom) shows that you can find a bird for just about any holiday.
While there is some variation from year to year, you can typically expect to see Featherly Friends releases for the following holidays and seasons.
- Valentine’s Day
- Easter
- Pride
- Summer
- Halloween
- Dia de los Muertos
- Harvest (aka Thanksgiving)
- Christmas
For big holidays like Christmas, Target also tends to release mini birds as well as ornaments and accessories featuring these feathered friends.
What Retailers Sell Dupes for Target Birds?
Other retailers have noticed the growing popularity of Featherly Friends, so they’ve started making their own.
If the Target Halloween birds aren’t restocked this year (and you don’t want to spend a fortune on the resale market), the following retailers have offered dupes for Target birds in the past.
It seems like new stores are putting their versions of Target birds on their shelves every year. As a result, it pays to keep your eyes peeled while you shop.
Meet the 2024 Target Halloween Birds
Now that you know the basics of Featherly Friends, we’re proud to introduce this year’s lineup of Target Halloween birds!
Note that not everyone likes the look of the mouths on this year’s birds. Luckily, it appears that you can remove the birds’ mouths with a pair of scissors and some tweezers.
Note: While the majority of Target’s Halloween 2024 Featherly Friends are currently out of stock. They are likely to be restocked in the coming weeks in stores – if past years are any indication of what we’ll see this year.
Batrick
As you might have guessed from the punny name, Batrick is a mostly black bird that wears bat wings and ears. The wings feature a fun spiderweb print and the mouth is full of pointy teeth.
Glitter
Rather than dressing like a monster, Glitter takes costume inspiration from a punk rocker. Complete with neon glasses and a green mohawk, this hot pink bird knows how to party.
Gourdon
Quite a dapper gentleman, Gourdon is a bird with a jack-o-lantern face and pinstripe jacket with purple lapels. A green bow tie and black top hat complete the spooky yet sophisticated look.
Hoodie
The Grim Reaper never looked so cute. Hoodie comes equipped with a black cloak with red accents, a gray bow tie and a spooky scythe to make up the ghastly costume.
Pawson
Pawson is my favorite from this year’s Target Halloween birds collection. This Featherly Friend wears a cat costume with a gray face and an orange pumpkin body that’s equally creepy and cute.
Skitter
Designed to have a spider body, Skitter has spider legs for wings and a mouth that’s full of pointed teeth. A white spiderweb design also surrounds this Featherly Friend.
Spellma
Here to put a spell on you is Spellma, the witchy Target bird. Thanks to its purple and black witch hat and jacket with a green collar, you’ll cackle with delight when you see this bird.
X-Ray
The final addition to this Halloween’s Target birds features neon colors, much like Glitter. However, rather than being a punk rocker, this Featherly Friend is a zombie bird.
