Add this delicious chicken recipe to the menu plan this week!
Mississippi chicken has just 5 ingredients and can easily be made by adding everything to the Crock-Pot. If you’re having a busy week and don’t want to use the oven, this could be a perfect option for dinner. The seasoned shredded chicken turns out tender, juicy, and super flavorful. The au jus sauce is buttery and delclious too!
I served this for my family as sandwiches with coleslaw and they LOVED it so much. It’s been a while since anyone has gotten excited about a slow cooker meal, and this one impressed! I opted to eat mine as a low-carb salad and it was yummy served that way too. Another idea would be to serve your chicken over rice or mashed potatoes instead.

Extra tips for making this Mississippi chicken recipe:
- You can make this chicken in the oven instead of a slow cooker. try adding all the ingredients to a baking dish. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes at 425 degrees until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.
- Prefer beef instead of chicken? We have made this recipe before using a chuck roast and it’s also insanely YUM! Mississippi pot roast is one of our favs too and you can make it using the same ingredients and slow cooker directions.
- Leftovers are wonderful warmed up again the next day. Keep them in the fridge in a storage container for up to 3-4 days.
