I’m Obsessed: Why It’s Time to Add Fruit To Your Home Decor

5 hours ago 1

Is it just me, or is popping into World Market for “one or two things” always a dangerous idea? That store is just too darn cute. On a recent visit, when I was only supposed to grab birthday cards and wrapping paper, I got completely sidetracked by their new collection of fruit throw pillows.

Now, do I need more throw pillows? Probably not. Do I need fruit throw pillows? Arguable. But suddenly… I felt I just had to have these.

Of course, I’m not just any shopper—I’m also a shopping editor, and I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve. To avoid impulse buys, I snap photos of the items I want. It gives me some cool-down time to make a more thoughtful decision and do a little comparison shopping. It also buys me time to track down the best World Market coupons, cash back offers, and promos so I can save the most if I decide to go for it.

So here I am, a couple of days later, still thinking about those fruit throw pillows from World Market. And apparently, I’m not the only one. According to a recent Fast Company article, fruit-themed decor is having a major moment in spring and summer home design. A style editor at Homes & Gardens just reported: “Cottagecore fans, listen up: it is time for your strawberry summer.”

Why is Fruit Themed Decor Appealing?

Fruit as a theme in art and design is nothing new—artists have used it symbolically from Ancient Egypt all the way to today. Greek and Roman art featured detailed, realistic depictions of fruit, and there are countless famous still-life paintings from the Renaissance centered around it. Clearly, we’ve long been fascinated by fruit.

But you don’t need an art history degree to understand why. Fruit is colorful, beautiful, sweet, and nutritious—it reminds us of sunshine, warmer days, and times of abundance. Just the colors alone can brighten up any indoor or outdoor space, making fruit an easy and joyful choice for accent decor. And these days, who doesn’t need a little more joy in their life?
