A DIY armpit detox is a natural way to freshen your pits!
Struggling with body odor even after applying deodorant? An armpit detox might be exactly what you need!
With just two simple ingredients, you can help cleanse built-up toxins, balance bacteria, and refresh your underarms naturally. This quick and easy detox is perfect for anyone noticing odor too soon after deodorant—your pits will thank you!
Why should you detox underarms?
An armpit detox helps reset your underarms by drawing out toxins, balancing bacteria, and allowing your skin to breathe naturally. Over time, conventional deodorants and antiperspirants can clog pores and disrupt the natural microbiome, leading to increased odor, irritation, and even excessive sweating.
If you find that your deodorant isn’t lasting as long as it should or you experience odor shortly after applying it, your body might be signaling a buildup that needs to be cleared. Detoxing your armpits can make natural deodorants more effective, reduce odor over time, and support your body’s natural detox pathways—leaving you feeling fresh and confident!
We sweat to release toxins, drink lemon water to cleanse, and dry brush to stimulate lymphatic flow—so why not care for our underarms too?
An armpit detox gives your skin a chance to reset, letting the microbiome rebalance naturally without the interference of chemicals, so you can stay fresh and odor-free.
How to detox armpits at home:
For an armpit detox, all you’ll need is Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay and Organic Apple Cider Vinegar.
Bentonite clay is a powerful natural detoxifier known for its ability to draw out impurities, heavy metals, and buildup from the skin while soothing irritation. Apple cider vinegar, rich in beneficial acids and probiotics, helps balance the skin’s pH and combat odor-causing bacteria. Together, these two ingredients create a deep-cleansing yet gentle paste that not only removes toxins but also supports a healthier underarm microbiome.
Tips for how to detox armpits [naturally]:
- Don’t use metal as it will negatively affect the clay.
- Wear a tank top (or no shirt) to avoid messing your clothes.
- Use a jelly brush for mixing & easy application.
- Don’t add water to the clay and vinegar mix.
- Too runny? Add more clay until it’s like sour cream.
- Let the mask dry completely before rinsing.
- For best results, do an armpit detox every 3-5 months to keep bacteria buildup in check.

Directions
1
In a small bowl, combine the Indian Healing Clay and Apple Cider Vinegar. Stir with a jelly brush or spoon until smooth. *Note that metal utensils are NOT recommended!
2
Apply a thick, even layer (approximately 1/4″) of the mask on each underarm using the jelly brush.
3
Keep arms elevated and allow the mask to sit for about 20 minutes, or until dry. This is a great time to lie down, relax, and enjoy 20 mins of peace.
4
Once the mask has fully dried, wipe it off with a warm washcloth disposing of the chunks of clay when possible. Wait at least one hour before applying deodorant.
What to expect after an armpit detox:
After an armpit detox, you may notice smoother, fresher skin and less odor as your underarms reset. It’s common for some to experience a mild detox reaction, like increased sweating or a brief spike in odor, as your body releases toxins. However, over time, your skin will balance out. Even better, natural deodorants will work more effectively, leaving you feeling clean and refreshed.
Consistent detoxing can help maintain a healthier underarm microbiome and improve long-term odor control.
On rare occasions, a second round of detoxing may be necessary. Especially if the initial mask wasn’t left on long enough or if the detox didn’t fully clear all the odor-causing bacteria. The duration and consistency of the detox can affect how well it works, and some individuals might need another treatment for optimal results.
