Delta Woes Continue with More Delays and Cancellations
Delta Air Lines continues to cancel and delay flights after Friday’s global tech outage.
The Atlanta-based airline is in its sixth day of flight disruptions leaving passengers stranded at airports, following the CrowdStrike outage that impacted all industries from courts to hospitals.
Most other companies and businesses, including airlines, recovered within 24 hours. So Delta stands out, uniquely affected by the global IT outage.
In a company memo, Delta said they’re seeing day over day progress and that “teams are working around the clock to reposition planes and people to where they need to be so we can return to normal operations by the end of the week.”
However, according to the flight-tracking website FlightAware, the airline has already canceled or delayed another 1,000 flights on Wednesday.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has now stepped in and opened an investigation into the recent flight disruptions, citing “the high volume of consumer complaints” the department has received against Delta.
The agency is also urging affected passengers to report Delta or any airline, that doesn’t follow USDOT passenger protection rules.
Social media has been filled with images and videos of passengers stranded at airports, with some of them seeing their flights canceled up to three or four times.
