What’s the history behind FREE Cone Day?
Are you curious why such a large company would dish out delicious ice cream for FREE? It’s actually a yearly tradition that started over 45 years ago, during Ben & Jerry’s first year of business in 1979. That year, Vermont saw an extremely cold winter, one that might turn consumers off from eating a chilly treat. However, Ben & Jerry’s local community showed them support and the ice cream company not only survived but thrived.
To celebrate their first year in business, owners Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield decided to thank their community by serving as much free ice cream as they could churn out. After that day, FREE Cone Day became a yearly tradition and one that ice cream fans around the world look forward to celebrating.
