American, Alaska Delta, United, and Southwest Get DCA Flights

The Department of Transportation (DOT) issued its final order regarding non-perimeter flights from Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA).

The perimeter rule limits nonstop flights at DCA to 1,250 miles from Washington, unless the government has granted an exception.

On Tuesday the DOT awarded two slot exemptions at DCA to each of the five air carriers listed below, to operate new nonstop roundtrip service as follows:

  • Alaska Airlines, Inc. (Alaska) for new service to San Diego, California (SAN);
  • American Airlines, Inc. (American) for new service to San Antonio, Texas (SAT);
  • Delta Air Lines, Inc. (Delta) for additional service to Seattle, Washington (SEA);
  • Southwest Airlines Co. (Southwest) for additional service to Las Vegas, Nevada (LAS); and
  • United Airlines, Inc. (United) for additional service to San Francisco, California (SFO).

Carriers are expected to inaugurate full service within 90 days following the date of service of this order, unless otherwise requested, and approved, in writing by the DOT.
